Happy Wednesday! I hope everyone is having a great week! These are some things I'm currently crushing on for Wishlist Wednesday... This leopard beanie sold out pretty fast last year so I'm excited it's back in stock.
So ladies, for on trend winter basics you need the following 8 items:
1) a cute beanie - especially pom beanies!
2) Mittens
3) Cozy scarf that you'll wear everyday and goes with everything (the one I linked is $25 btw)
4) Uggs, Sorels or Bean Boots to keep your feet warm and dry in rain or snow
5) Running shoes for errands and your new year's resolutions ;)
6) Moto jacket - real suede or leather is best, but if those are too pricy there are some pretty good cheaper dupes out there
7) Off the shoulder sweater
8) Bell Sleeve top!
I'm loving off the shoulder and bell sleeve trends even in the winter months, aren't you?

What Every New Home Kitchen Needs
As some of you know, my boyfriend recently moved to the Seattle area and is settling into a new home. I'm here with him now for the long weekend which has been so great! We just made grilled cheese and tomato soup (yum!) and while we were cooking we noticed that he's still missing some key kitchen items (like a plastic spatula.) So, he asked me to compile a kitchen shopping list for his new home. These are items every well-stocked kitchen should have!
Plates, Bowls, Cups, Mugs, Silverware, Napkins, Placemats
- This 18-piece dinnerware set is a good starter. You get 6 bowls, 6 dinner plates and 6 dessert plates for only $30! They are microwave, oven, freezer and dishwasher safe too.
- I also like this Rachael Ray set that comes with 4 bowls, 4 appetizer plates, 4 dinner plates and 4 mugs. They also come in a variety of pretty colors!
- Check out these 10 pub glasses for $17.99
- This is another best-seller on Amazon: 20-piece silverware set (for 4 people)
Mixing Bowls of All Sizes
- Stainless steel is preferred by many top chefs: this is a set of 6 for $22
- I prefer glass: this is a set of 10 for $23
Measuring Cups and Spoons
- Simply the best! Pyrex set of 3 measuring cups for $15
- Another Amazon best-seller: stainless steel measuring spoons on sale for $10!
Whisk
- I love OXO products - we have their avocado slicer and it's pretty sweet! Here is the OXO whisk for $10
Cutting Board
- I used to use bamboo cutting boards but I actually found that I don't love bamboo or wooden cutting boards because they can be hard to clean. I like this set of 4 OXO cutting boards because they're labelled for what you're cutting - chicken, fish, veggies and red meat. This is a great way to make sure your home and family stays healthy and also is nice for vegans, vegetarians or pescatarians to avoid cross-contamination.
Meat Thermometer
- Meat thermometers can be tricky -- this one is very highly rated with over 4,000 reviews. It's important to find one that you like!
Oven Mitts
- My boyfriend has these silicone pinch oven mitts -- I'm clumsy so I prefer oven mitts that cover the entirety of my hands like these. These are on sale for $11 (normally $20!)
Cookie Sheets and Cooling Racks
- 3 piece nonstick cookie sheets of all the crucial sizes (10x15, 9x13, 11x17)
- Non stick cooling racks - crucial for baking!
Set of Kitchen Knives
- This Cuisinart 15-piece stainless steel set of knives is ON SALE FOR $45!! It's normally $156!
Can Opener
- $12 for this one
Rubber Spatula
- Technically this is called a turner and this is called a spatula (hint: you need both)
Wooden Spoon
- You know I love me some OXO! Wooden Spoon here
A Blender
- If you're a smoothie lover like me, The Magic Bullet is AMAZING because you can make a smoothie and then take off the blender and voila you have your smoothie cup to go!
- Blenders can get really expensive but this one is reasonably priced at $27.
Silpat Cooking Mat
- Everybody needs a Silpat Cooking Mat -- you save a ton of time cleaning up and can turn any pan into a nonstick surface
Lunch Box Kits
- Lunch box kits
- 42 piece set for $24!
Slow Cooker
- Well worth the $49! This 6-quart crock pot
Rice Cooker
- This is actually a pressure cooker but I use it to cook rice :) You can use it for lots of different things though like as a slow cooker or to steam/warm/brown etc. It even says you can make yogurt with it but I'm not sure how you would do that!!
Collander
- These are collapsible which is sweet because collander's can take up a ton of room in your cupboard! Also they are on sale for $13 right now (down from $22)
Mixer
- Everyone needs a KitchenAid mixer!
Dutch Oven
- Dutch ovens can get expensive. This one is $36 and is cast iron!
Thanks for reading! I hope you like this list and that it helps you get settled into your new home!

2016: The Year in Review
2016 - tbh, I'm not sorry to leave it behind.
I do want to do a quick recap of what 2016 held for Maple and Mint. Throughout last year, my little corner of the internet looked something like this: Maple and Mint turned 2! I collaborated with some amazing brands like Lancome, Makeup Forever, Uncommon Goods, JORD watches, Pixers and Vegas.com, to name a few. I'm so fortunate to work with such amazing people and companies!
These are my top 9 Instagram posts of 2016:
Thank you for the love! If you're not following me on Instagram already, let's connect! You can follow me @thepowerofimage.
In 2016 I also sent out my first Maple and Mint e-newsletter, launched a podcast on iTunes (which you can listen to here!!) and began writing for Stay.com. I was also featured in Trendly Magazine which was SUCH a fun and cool experience -- you can read the interview here.
Here were your most loved posts of 2016:
1) Interview with Foster James (I know, she's the coolest, right?)
2) Puffer Jacket and OTK Boots
3) Gearing Up For a New Year
In personal news, David moved to Seattle and started a new job. We started traveling back and forth between LA and Seattle every couple of weekends. My parents moved to LA into a fabulous beach house, my cousin and her long time sweetheart got married and had their first child (he was born over this past weekend!!) I went to four beautiful weddings, and traveled for the first time to one of the most beautiful places in the world, Tahiti.
In some less sunshine and roses news, I quit a job that wasn't working out back in August and was unemployed for three months. Being unemployed really showed me what a privilege it is to be employed, and also helped me clarify my goals going forward. I learned some hard lessons about what it means to be a grownup and take responsibility for my future.
As we continue on this journey together, let's get to know each other better. Follow me on Twitter and Pinterest and let's have some dialogues! I want to get to know all of YOU better because I'm not just writing these blog posts for myself, I want them to be of some help to YOU!
Thank you all for reading, it means the world to me. Happy New Year Friends!!

Gearing up for a new year
With the year coming to a close, I've been thinking a lot about improvements I want to make in 2017. What can I do to workout more? To spend more quality time with friends and loved ones? To spruce up my living space? While I may still be contemplating my workout routine and social calendar, I've got the living space thing covered with Pixers.
Pixers offers durable, matte, reusable wall murals that stick to the walls and don't ruin the paint job in your home when you peel them off. (Hello, more rent deposit to keep when you move!) Plus some of the wall murals are washable, so if they get stained, say, in the kitchen or in a child's bedroom, or, let's face it, because you tripped and spilled red wine all over your wall, you can just use a damp cloth to wipe them clean.
Vinyl Wall Mural: Old Tree #FO49995681 from Pixers
Or maybe you're looking for something that will make you feel like you're on vacation even when you're still at home? You might not be able to afford that trip to Hawaii, but you can stare at your walls and pretend you're in paradise.
Vinyl Wall Mural: Seamless Exotic Pattern with Abstract Palm Leaves and Colibri #FO124358880 from Pixers
Or maybe your apartment has more of an artsy, hipster vibe? How unique of you :) Go with something like this:
Washable Wall Mural: Street Scene #FO41338211 from Pixers
The best part? The murals can move with you when you move on to your next home. Cue tears from landlord who loves you dearly for not painting or putting holes in his walls.
Vinyl Wall Mural: Air Balloon On Sky #FO49789348
I can't wait to kiss 2016 goodbye and welcome 2017 with open arms (and funky wall murals.)
No More Holes
One of the difficulties I've run into in my twenties while living in LA is that I move a lot. This means that I'm constantly putting holes in my rented apartment walls, only to, a year later, pack up my paintings and frantically try to spackle the holes in the walls that I've created. Landlords, generally speaking, don't love when tenants put lots of holes in their walls. (Guilty.) And often they won't let you paint the walls, either. Hello, depressing shade of off white that apartments normally come with. Oh how I wish I had known about Pixers the year that I lived in three different apartments!Pixers offers durable, matte, reusable wall murals that stick to the walls and don't ruin the paint job in your home when you peel them off. Something for Everyone
Pixers offers a wide variety of bright, fun, patterned wall murals that are sure to meet anybody's interior decorating taste. You don't have to change your whole apartment or house to liven up a space and there are millions (yes, millions!) of products to choose from on the Pixers website.Earth Prints
Want to create a feeling of positive energy and light in your eating area? Try incorporating this colorful, whimsical tree. How gorgeous would this tree of life be in a drab dining area? Did I mention the wall mural is eco-friendly? Saving the planet is so chic.Vinyl Wall Mural: Old Tree #FO49995681 from Pixers

City Scenes

Transport You to Another World
Maybe nature or city scenes aren't your thing. Maybe you just want to come home and experience the haven that is your 400 square foot apartment. Try something that will transport you out of this world of dreary desk jobs and $4 lattes that you can't afford. I love how dreamy this hot air balloon in a sea of clouds is. I feel so relaxed just looking at it, don't you?
I can't wait to kiss 2016 goodbye and welcome 2017 with open arms (and funky wall murals.)
A big thank you to Pixers for sponsoring this post.

Christmas Pajamas! Merry Almost Christmas!
Is there anything better than Christmas jammies?? I love wearing flannel pajamas and HUGE thick fuzzy socks (see above, lol,) especially on Christmas morning when I wake up early to see if Santa has arrived, and it's cold and brisk outside and I curl up in a blanket on the sofa to wait until everyone is up and ready to open presents :) My feet are always cold so these fuzzy socks I got at Big Lots for $5 are AMAZING!!
There are so many cute Christmas pajamas out this year! You can get my Cheers shirt here for $12.99 :) These oh so amazing Christmas jammies are 30% off! The red leggings I'm wearing are from Target last year, but I've linked some similar ones and lots more Christmas jammies fun for you guys below! And actually the leggings I'm wearing above were a little tight for pajama comfort. I'd probably go for these lounge pants if I had a do over!
Merry almost Christmas!!!
